AULNU has urged Nigerian universities to adopt Open Access policies and appoint only professionally certified librarians to lead academic libraries. The association also called for stronger investment in digital infrastructure and support for Open Access publishing to boost research visibility and innovation.
NOUN, Nursing Council Move to Restructure BNSc Admission Requirements
The National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) has engaged the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (NMCN) on plans to restructure its Bachelor of Nursing Science (BNSc) admission requirements to accommodate more qualified candidates. The university is proposing a framework that would allow O’Level holders to enrol in the programme while maintaining professional and clinical training standards. The council has requested a detailed proposal and indicated its readiness to consider the framework through further technical discussions.
Gov. Otti: NOUN Study Centre Coming to Aba
Abia State Governor, Alex Chioma Otti, has approved the establishment of a National Open University of Nigeria study centre in Aba, directing officials to secure a temporary site pending the construction of a permanent facility. The decision followed a request by NOUN Vice-Chancellor, Uduma Oji Uduma, who highlighted the need to expand access to education through Open and Distance Learning. Governor Otti also pledged government support for the project and ordered improvements to facilities at the university’s existing study centre in Umuahia.
NUC Set To Engage NYSC For NOUN Graduates To Participate In National Service
National Universities Commission plans to work with National Youth Service Corps to enable eligible National Open University of Nigeria graduates participate in NYSC. The announcement came during NOUN’s 15th convocation, where over 24,000 students graduated, as officials also highlighted the university’s growing role in expanding access to higher education through digital learning.
NOUN and NECO Forge Strategic Partnership to Digitalise Result Verification and Curb Malpractice
National Examinations Council and National Open University of Nigeria have partnered to improve result verification and strengthen CBT-based examinations. The collaboration will use NECO’s e-verification system and NOUN’s CBT centres to support admissions and reduce exam malpractice.
